Man held on weapons charges

Archant

A man has been charged with assault and firearms offences following the discovery of a number of weapons at a Suffolk property.

Police received a report last Sunday that a woman in her 40s had been assaulted at a property on Potash Road, Wyverstone, on Thursday, March 27. Officers attended the address and a man was arrested on suspicion of assault.

As part of the investigation, police searched the property and found “a number of weapons”. A spokeswoman said the search will continue over the coming days, and that the house remains cordoned off while investigations continue.

James Arnold, 49, of Potash Road, Wyverstone, has been charged with two counts of assault and four counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, and has been held in custody to appear before Ipswich magistrates on Monday.

A 45-year-old woman from the Stowmarket area was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a prohibited firearm. She has been released on police bail until Wednesday, May 21.
