ANTHONY OGOGO could named on the undercard of a forthcoming Floyd Mayweather Jr fight, as he attempts to transform his success in the amateur ranks to the professional game.

The 24-year-old Lowestoft middleweight was unveiled by ‘Golden Boy’ CEO Richard Schaefer at a press conference, held at Mayfair Hotel, in London, on Tuesday, where it was confirmed he would fight eight times in his first year – four times in the UK and four times in the US.

Ogogo, who is scheduled to make his paid debut in April, won a bronze medal at last summer’s Olympic Games and has been tipped to be a “crossover superstar”, recognised on both sides of the Atlantic.

Schaefer, who revealed the Los Angeles-based company was looking make up a “Dream Team” of British fighters, said: “We are planning to do four live events a year from the UK with Anthony fighting on all four. At the same time, we would want him to fight four times in the US in his first year.

“The idea is to have Anthony boxing on some of the biggest bills in the US, including the Mayweather fights, and we fell the sky is the limit as he has the right talent and charisma.”

Ogogo, who revealed he held talks with several promoters, including Frank Warren, Matchroom and Ricky Hatton, said he was delighted to be joining the LA-based company, founded by US boxing legend, Oscar De La Hoya.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be joining a super power in the world of boxing and I am so excited to get started,” he said.

“I met the majority of the British promoters and they all showed great hospitality but when I met Golden Boy, there was a spark straight away.

“I want to be come a global superstar, Britain’s best-ever middleweight boxer, I want to be knighted in the future.

“I have got massive aspirations and when I told Richard (Schaefer) that, he said ‘let’s do it’, lets become synonymous in boxing.

“I can’t see how, with my talent and determination, how I am not going to succeed.”

Unbeaten Mayweather Jr’s next fight is scheduled for May 4, against Robert Guerrero at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
