A quirk of fixture fate has seen both teams draw each other in the FA Cup preliminary round tomorrow afternoon at King’s Marsh Stadium.

On Bank Holiday Monday the two then meet at Recreation Way, Mildenhall, in a Bostik North clash.

First things first, and for Sudbury boss Mark Morsley, the importance of the FA Cup has never been lost on him.

“I believe the FA Cup still creates heroes and villains and for me many great memories,” he said.

“Although many pro clubs have tried to undermine its importance in previous seasons I believe that opinion is changing.

“That has never been the case for non-league teams as we all start out at the very early rounds dreaming of a 1st Round Proper appearance and a pro club draw.

“In many ways therefore it is a bit of a shame that we have drawn one of our neighbours (and that is no disrespect to Dean Greygoose’s Mildenhall team) as playing a new, unknown club adds to the spice of the competition.

“Nevertheless this is our draw and it is a game that we are all looking forward to. Plus there’s a chance for the loser, if there is one, to gain some revenge as we meet again on Monday.”

Sudbury came from behind to beat FC Romania in the League Cup on Wednesday night, that after a gut-wrenching 1-0 last-minute defeat to Heybridge Swifts last Saturday.

“We were unlucky to get nothing from a very tight game against Heybridge but we showed no hangover from that by beating FC Romania,” Morsley said.

“In that game we had to come back from being 2-1 down and that shows great unity in the camp.

“We saw an excellent home crowd last Saturday and driving that support is a number of my targets for this season.”

As regards Mildenhall, Morsley knows Greygoose’s side will provide two stiff tests for his young chargers.

“Mildenhall have recruited well in the summer, none more than the excellent John Sands who has a proven goal scoring pedigree. A good encounter is on the cards and both games will be well worth watching, I’m sure.”

Mildenhall have so far drawn with Maldon and lost to Basildon in their opening Bostik North clashes.
