Cameron Carter-Vickers doesn’t know what the future holds but the young Tottenham loanee would consider a loan return to Ipswich Town next season if the opportunity presented itself.

The central defender, who started the season on loan at Sheffield United before moving to Suffolk in January, has been an instant hit following a series of impressive displays on the right of Ipswich Town’s back three and performed well in Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Brentford.

He will return to Tottenham for pre-season and, if manager Mauricio Pochettino decides another season on loan in the second tier is best for his development, then the 20-year-old would consider a return to Ipswich if the opportunity became available.

“I’ve really enjoyed it,” the United States international said of his time at Portman Road.

“It’s been my first full season playing senior football and I’ve learnt a lot and like to think I’ve improved as a player.

“I’m not sure (what’s next) because that’s not really my decision – it’s for Tottenham. All I know is that I’m going back to Tottenham for pre-season and see what happens from there.

“Yeah, definitely,” he added when asked if he would consider a return to Ipswich.

“I want to play football so if the opportunity comes and the manager at Tottenham says he doesn’t need me and the opportunity to play football again in the Championship comes up then I will be up for it.

“Things change in football quickly so you never know.”

Carter-Vickers says he has learnt a lot from Ipswich skipper Luke Chambers during his temporary spell and believes the Blues’ captain will be a big miss after it was revealed he could miss the rest of the campaign with a rib injury.

“He will be a big miss because he’s an experienced player and he really does help the team play and get going,” he said.

“He’s always there, on the pitch and off the pitch and he’s a friendly guy. He’s great around the training ground and brings a lot of energy to the squad. “Chambo reads the game really well and has massive experience in the Championship and is a good player.”

Carter-Vickers believes the penalty that settled Saturday’s game at Brentford, awarded following a nudge from Jonas Knudsen on Sergi Canos, was harsh.

He said: “It was disappointing to lose the game and I thought we did well for large parts of it but they are a good team and they have quality on the ball and can move it around,” he said.

“But I think we matched them and maybe deserved more.

“From where I was standing it looked particularly soft and I actually thought the referee was going to give a dive when he blew up, so that was a bit of a shock.

“I think this was even softer than the Birmingham penalty (when Carter-Vickers fouled Jacques Maghoma) and it’s those small margins that win and lose games.”
