Carlos Edwards: We must be ready to fight

Huddersfield v Ipswich: Carlos Edwards has called on Ipswich Town to be more professional as they prepare for a Huddersfield Town backlash in West Yorkshire on Saturday.

Both teams head into the game on the back of midweek defeats, but Town’s 2-0 home reversal to Watford was far less significant than the Terriers’ 6-1 humbling at Nottingham Forest.

The game was new Huddersfield boss Mark Robins’ first league match in charge and followed Sunday’s 4-1 FA Cup drubbing at the hands of Wigan Athletic.

Robins claimed Tuesday night’s baptism of fire left him “the most embarrassed” he has ever been but Edwards knows Ipswich, also battling to avoid the drop, can’t rest on their laurels, despite the Terriers having won just one of their previous 16 Championship games.

“We need to have our heads on, stick to our game-plan, but be more professional in terms of our approach to the game, and how we go about getting a result,” said the Blues skipper.

“You can’t say this is a good time to play Huddersfield because we are in a similar position and we were always going to be talking about it being a tough game, whether they lost 1-0 or 6-1.

“It will be a right fight and will be one of those games where we have to dig deep, with every player on his game.

“It is not going to be easy and there will be an extra spark as they are coming home after being hammered at Nottingham Forest.

“They are down there fighting with us and need to put things right.”

Meanwhile, defender Richard Stearman is expected to be fit for Saturday’s clash, despite dislocating his finger in Tuesday night’s defeat.

The defender suffered the injury in the first half, colliding with Stephen Henderson, as he attempted to clear the ball from danger.

The finger was strapped until the end of the game before being put back in place, in hospital.

  • More football skills and less fighting would do it for me.

  • Perhaps it might be better if Carlos and the rest of the Offshore Investment crew were simply ready play a game of football. As Huddersfield look incapable of winning more than two games between now and season's end that simple objective ought to be more than enough.

  • More than halfway through the season it would be nice to think the players are nearly ready to start playing

  • I heard the coaches were teaching the team how to play good football, but it was just a passing fad.

  • Thats good coming from one of towns worse players but there to think of it town do not hardly have any, there nearly all cast-off hand me downs from clubs, that they cannot make the grade at.

  • OK Carlos, could you please go around the outside of the fall back and deliver a cross more than once a match.

  • Rob Steroo - I've been suffering from man flu lately and found it difficult to sleep. However your boring drivel works better than any sedative. Your pathetic attempts to make yourself sound intellectually interesting are the only humorous parts of your rants, but even that's now very tedious. .

  • I am sorry but I cannot take seriously anything that Carlos Edwards says. Nor it seems can the rest of the Ipswich team!
