Dominic King, of Colchester Harriers, has become the first Briton in 22 years to be selected for the 50K race walk at the World Championships.
King was named in the Great Britain squad today, for this summer’s London extravaganza.
The Colchester-born 33-year-old has already competed at the 2002 Commonwealth Games (Manchester), and at two Olympic Games – in London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, last year.
King achieved the qualifying time for the World Championships, by clocking 4hrs 04mins 16secs in Dudince, Slovakia, in March. He has a personal best of 3:55.48 for the 50K challenge.
The race-walk will take place on Sunday, August 13, and will be staged around a two-kilometre loop along The Mall, between Buckingham Palace and Admiralty Arch. The event will be free to spectators.
King works at the University of Essex.
