The versatile Duguid, who has chalked up an impressive 417 league games for the Essex club, is still very much a part of Joe Dunne’s playing squad.

But the Irishman is set to promote Duguid to a new player-coach role, subject to agreeing terms.

“I’m in the process of moving Karl Duguid into a position of player-coach,” confirmed Dunne.

“This will bring him onto the dark side!

“I just need to sort one or two things, but he is the ultimate professional who can offer us so much.

“Karl will be great for the young players to bring through. He is someone they can talk to.

“Sometimes, young players are a bit nervous of talking to senior management, but we have a good link now.

“And Karl can still play League football.”
