DJ CAMPBELL regretted changing his normal penalty-taking habits against Nottingham Forest, but he returned to his tried-and-tested method at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

Campbell calmly converted a 70th minute spot kick, to bring Town level at 1-1 at the Reebok Stadium, before fellow striker Michael Chopra finished the job with a 90th minute winner in a 2-1 success.

The QPR loanee dispatched his penalty, low to keeper Adam Bogdan’s right, his normal routine, having had his spot-kick blocked by Lee Camp just four days earlier, after trying to surprise the Forest keeper by aiming for the other corner.

“That last penalty had been preying on my mind,” confessed Campbell.

“I missed against Forest, even though Luke (Hyam) scored from the rebound. It wasn’t the best penalty, and I was lucky that Luke put it in.

“I never go that way usually. I never take penalties and go that way, because every-time I do that in training, I miss!

“So I don’t know why I went that way to be honest!

“On the other hand, every time I went the way I did today (at Bolton), I always score.

“I needed to redeem myself, by taking it that way, and this was a massive win for us. We want to keep it going now,” added Campbell.

  • Unfortunately DJ now every goalkeeper in the world knows your secret so perhaps you will have to practice more in training doing it the other way!
