Ipswich Town midfielder Andre Dozzell could be set for a loan move away from Portman Road, we understand.

The teenage midfielder missed the entirety of last season due to a knee ligament injury suffered on the opening day of the campaign but has battled his way back to fitness.

He, along with fellow England Under 19 internationals Flynn Downes, Ben Morris and Tristan Nydam, are not in the matchday squad for today’s game with Rotherham, with manager Paul Hurst stating earlier this week that he is set to circulate a list of players available for loan.

We understand Dozzell is one of those players, with his temporary destination not yet clear.

Hurst is a fan of the midfielder but recently stated that the 19-year-old is still a way short of the fitness levels required following 12 months out.

The likes of Barry Cotter and Ben Folami, who both made Ipswich debuts last season, appear to be some distance from Hurst’s first-team squad while Josh Emmanuel has also not been included in the manager’s plans for the opening two games of the season.

“We have (a lot of central midfielders),” Hurst said this week.

“Again, I think that will be something I’ll certainly be looking at, certainly not because I don’t think they’re good players or I don’t see them having a future at Ipswich Town, it’s more about people getting games.

“I’ll be trying to get them somewhere where I feel for their development they can get minutes on the pitch because I will never send anyone out on loan and speak to a manager or a club and say they’ve got to play.

“That’s a load of rubbish in my opinion. They’ve got to earn their right to play. As a manager you don’t want something hung over your head saying you have to play a certain player because [he may not be] the best one for the team at that moment in time.

“Sometimes it’s not even fair on the player, so I’m not really keen on those sorts of deals. But where you feel they’ve got a genuine opportunity to play, that’s what we’ll look for with a couple of lads.”
