Joe Dunne, gives some instructions during the 5-1 home defeat to Tranmere on Saturday

COLCHESTER United boss, Joe Dunne, always wears his heart on his sleeve, during post-match press conferences, regardless of the result.

Some managers shirk the press, shirk the truth, or try to put a different spin on what has just unfolded on the pitch.

But not Joe Dunne.

He says it, how he sees it, and Saturday was no exception.

“I told the players what I thought, and one or two got told some home truths,” revealed Dunne, following the U’s dismal 5-1 home defeat to Tranmere Rovers.

“I don’t accept some of those performances today. I will not accept it.

“If it takes this 5-1 to make some of these players realise the situation that we are in, then we can use that to our advantage.

“This has to be the last setback, in the run-in. We can’t play like that again, we simply can’t.

“We’ve made basic errors, and we’ve got to be better.

“A lot of my players were below par, and I don’t fully understand the reason why.

“We had focused all week on defending, and we’ve ended up conceding five goals!” added Dunne.
