The largest and oldest horse show in East Anglia has been hailed as a ‘lovely day’ blessed with glorious sunshine.

The 142nd Woodbridge Horse Show featured around 400 horses – including 32 Suffolk Punches – competing in more than 100 classes yesterday at Trinity Park, Ipswich.

Committee member Penny Watts said the fine weather made a “huge difference” to the historic event.

“It’s been a great show, with lots of entrants and well supported classes – a lovely day,” she said.

The event, which derived its importance from being the first show of the Suffolk horse season, has grown to be the largest in East Anglia.

Mrs Watts said the extensive selection of classes on offer made the show “really special” and set it apart from other events on calendars.

“These events cannot go ahead without an enormous amount of help from a lot of people and so I would like to say a big thanks to everyone involved,” she added.
