Ipswich Town have confirmed the loan signing of Ben Pringle from Fulham ahead of tomorrow’s Championship game at Bristol City.

The 26-year-old – who is capable of playing on the left or in the middle of midfield – joins initially for a month, although there is an agreement in place to extend that until the end of the season (potentially covering the play-off semi-finals but not the final).

A busy player whose main strength is crossing the ball from set-pieces or open play, Pringle came through West Brom’s academy and then started out playing non-league in his native north east.

He made his name at Rotherham, helping the Millers win the League One play-offs, and made a Bosman free transfer switch to Fulham last summer. There, he started out as a regular starter but has found his chances increasingly limited since Kit Symons was replaced by Slavisa Jokanovic in the Craven Cottage hot-seat. His last start came back on December 5.

Pringle could well go straight into the Town starting XI at Ashton gate tomorrow given that a whole host of midfielders – including Cole Skuse, Ryan Fraser and Jonathan Douglas – are sidelined through injury or suspension.

“When the opportunity came up to come here on loan, it was an easy decision,” Pringle told the club website.

“I know Mick McCarthy’s stature in the game and what he has achieved and that was a big pulling power.

“I knew there was interest in me from Ipswich last summer when I left Rotherham. I wasn’t offered a contract here or anything like that but I’m delighted to have the opportunity to join the Club now.

“I spoke to Luke Varney and a few other people and they couldn’t speak highly enough of the Club. I’m really looking forward to it.

“Ipswich are in a good position, challenging at the top end of the table and I’m here to help in any way I can over the rest of the season.

“After that I will see what happens. Fulham are my parent club and it will depend on what they say but if things go well for me here and Ipswich are happy with me, I’d definitely be interested in getting something done here for the future.”
