Ipswich Town new boy Kieffer Moore is determined to take his second chance in the Championship with both hands.

The 6ft 6in striker has joined from high-flying National League side Forest Green Rovers for a nominal fee – understood to be £10k – with his 18 month contract finalised yesterday.

It’s not the first time the 24-year-old has worked his way into the Football League from lower down the pyramid. The Torquay-born front man initially caught the eye for National League South sides Truro City and Dorchester Town before earning a move to Yeovil in 2013.

The Glovers endured back-to-back relegations from the second to the fourth tier during his two years there though and he moved to Norway to rebuild his career at Viking. Over the last 12 months he has scored 12 goals in the top-flight of non-league, five of them in an impressive loan spell at Torquay.

Asked if he thought he would get back to this level of football, the muscular former fitness trainer said: “I did, I really did. I’ve always backed myself, I’ve not once thought I wouldn’t make it in the game. I’ve always had that confidence in myself.

“The stint I had in Norway massively improved me, as has my time in non-league. I believe I am a much better player than I was when I was last in the Championship.

“Just because you’ve gone down to a certain level it doesn’t mean you’re that standard. If you’ve got the hunger and the attitude there is not reason you can’t make it.

“I feel like I got stuck in and made a good impression in my first training session. I’m raring to go and I’ll give it everything I’ve got. I’ll take this opportunity with both hands.”

Moore will not feature in tonight’s FA Cup Third Round replay at National League table-toppers Lincoln City (BBC One, 8.05pm) as he was not registered as a Blues player prior to the first meeting. Should Town win, he wouldn’t be able to play in the Fourth Round, against Brighton at Portman Road, as he played in the Fourth Qualifying Round for Forest Green.

“Obviously I’m a big man, I’ll bring the ball down, I’ll get people involved and I’m good with my feet,” said Moore. “I’ll take shots on goal and any crosses that come in I’ll give everything to get my head on it.

“The last two teams I’ve played for have been ball-playing, possession-based teams. I’m more than happy to go and get the ball deep and play some nice passes.”
