McCarthy is out of contract in the summer, with no decision made, but Evans insists he will be speaking with his manager over the ‘next few weeks’ to discuss his future and the best way forward for the club.

The Blues owner, who is set to outline his vision for the future in the coming weeks, insists he is aware some fans will be waiting until McCarthy’s future is resolved before making their decision regarding season tickets.

“As I’m sure you are aware, Mick’s contract is up at the end of the season and I’m fully aware that there will be supporters who will be waiting to see how that situation develops,” Evans said.

“I continue to have a very good relationship with Mick. We talk regularly and we will sit down and discuss the best way forward for this football club in the next few weeks. And that is the sole concern for me - what is best for Ipswich Town.

“Supporters will know the result of that conversation in due course but it will be made public in advance of the Early Bird deadline.

“Although the league is a different prospect now from when I first invested in the club more than 10 years ago, I remain as determined as ever to see Ipswich Town back in the Premier League,” he added.

“In the next few weeks I will be outlining my thoughts in detail on how we can best go about achieving that in an interview which all supporters will have access to.”

In announcing the season ticket price cut, Blues owner Evans admitted he made a mistake last season in raising prices following a disappointing 16th-place finish.

He told the club’s website: “I made a mistake last year in increasing prices on the back of a tough season.

“This year we have performed better on the pitch in what is an increasingly challenging division but I feel it’s the right thing to do by dropping season ticket prices substantially.

“I hope this encourages current season ticket holders to renew again for next year and acts as an incentive for those who perhaps have not been regulars at Portman Road this year.

He added: “Results on the pitch are the most important aspect of any football club and from talking to the manager and the players, I know supporters have a part to play in that.

“If we are together and united behind the team, it gives the club the best platform to move forward.”
