IPSWICH Town midfielder Josh Carson has joined League Two side York City on a one-month loan.

Having burst onto the scene under the management of Roy Keane, the 19-year-old academy graduate slipped down the pecking order under Paul Jewell, while he hasn’t featured for the first team at all since Mick McCarthy took over as boss last November.

York are currently four points above the relegation zone and battling to preserve their Football League status. The Minstermen recently sacked Gary Mills following an 11-game winless streak and replaced him with former Northern Ireland and Norwich boss Nigel Worthington. The later handed Carson his full international debut.

Carson, who is contracted until the summer of 2014 with an option for a further year, has made 18 starts and 15 substitute appearances for the Blues, scoring five goals – three of those coming inside his first five games.

McCarthy has been keen to send the youngster out on loan for a while and he spent time on trial at Northampton earlier in the year.

Speaking in January, the Blues boss said: “I think he needs to go and play some football. He’s just a young lad learning his trade and travelling with us and training with us is not good enough for him, he needs to play.”
