Let’s go and emulate Burnley.

Ipswich Town skipper Luke Chambers cut a bitterly disappointed figure after the Blues’ top-six hopes were ended with a 1-0 defeat at Turf Moor on Saturday.

But the sight of Sean Dyche’s men receiving a trophy for finishing second in the Championship table seemed to lift the defender’s spirits.

“There’s obviously been progress this season, but it’s difficult to talk about that right now because at this moment in time we are just terribly, terribly disappointed,” said Chambers.

“We let them off the hook today and to be honest we’ve probably let a few teams off the hook this season. That’s probably why we are where we are.”

Gazing upon the joyous Clarets players celebrating promotion to the Premier League, he continued: “They are a top, top side. I’m pleased for them because they deserve it.

“We have played them twice this season and lost 1-0 both times. The margins have not been very big at all.

“What they have achieved is what we have got to aim for now. I don’t think we are that far behind them.

“We’re really disappointed that we have not managed to take it to the last day, but there are a lot of positives for us to take from the season and we now have to try and emulate Burnley.

“We’ll play for pride next weekend. We want to send the fans into the summer feeling really positive about next season.”

Town boss Mick McCarthy said: “We all know it’s been a big turnaround this season, but I’m still disappointed because I think we were capable of getting in the top six.”

  • Sounds like you are clutching at straws there Budgie. Cast your mind back 6 months. You were chirping about the mighty Canaries as an established mid-table Premier League team. With poor old Ipswich destined for life in League 1. My oh my, next season you will be slumming it again in the Championship. I am confident though that you won't emulate Wolves and record back-to-back relegations to cancel out your previous back-to-back promotions. Whilst I'm in a charitable mood, bit of advice for Delia & co, she could do a helluva lot worse than getting Malky Mackay as your next manager. What are your thoughts?

  • Rita WAG lmao Keane, Jewell, McCarhty check your spelling before submitting love) all achieved promotions on shoe string budgets. Not every appointment goes according to plan immediately and managers don't get given the time.

  • Mona says NCFC needed Pulis, who has done an astonishing job at Palace. Hughton was bound to fail. What is it with East Anglian clubs and dreadful managers - Keane, Jewell, McCarhty and the feeble Hughton?
