Paul Green would relish a return to Ipswich Town but revealed the Blues have yet to offer him a permanent deal at the club.

The 31-year-old Republic of Ireland midfielder was released by Town’s Championship rivals Leeds United last month, having impressed manager Mick McCarthy during his loan spell towards the end of last season.

Just back from a post-season tour of the USA with Ireland, the former Derby County star has spoken to a couple of other clubs but is prepared to bide his time before making a decision.

“My agent has spoken to Mick (McCarthy) but no offer has been made yet,” said Green, who scored twice in 14 appearances during his time in Suffolk.

“I really enjoyed it at Ipswich and I could see me moving down there but you never know what is going to happen.

“I have spoken to a couple of other teams but nothing is certain yet. It’s a case of wait and see but Ipswich would definitely be up there at top of my list.

“Mick (McCarthy) was brilliant and was a big attraction in me going down there, he knows how to get teams out of this division.

“He also creates a great team spirit and I didn’t want the season to end.”

Green has been ticking over since the season ended and was a substitute in Ireland’s 0-0 draw with Italy at Craven Cottage, before starting the 1-1 draw with Costa Rica in the US.

Town return to pre-season training during the first week of July and face Irish outfit Shelbourne, in Dublin, on July 12.

“You don’t want to be missing much of pre-season as it’s such an important part of the build-up to the season,” Green explained.

“I remember missing one before and you are playing catch-up all the time.

“It would be nice to get something sorted in the next couple of weeks.”
