Ipswich Ladies won the Cranworth Salver for the 10th time when they recovered from a foursomes deficit to beat Felixstowe Ferry at Bramford Golf Centre, writes Tony Garnett.

The event started in 1936 but the first Ipswich success was in 1957 with seven more wins until the turn of the century. Their previous win came 15 years ago.

Felixstowe have won four times, once in 1966 and then in 2007, 2010 and 2014.

Felixstowe must have felt confident going into the singles needing to win two of the six singles and secure a half in another.

It was Ipswich who had all the answers with five wins out of six. Fiona Todd was the only Felixstowe player to win her singles.

The Bramford course looked verdant in the sunshine. The club house has been developed to provide an impressive new facility for meals.

Foursomes (Ipswich names first): Anna Fairs and Clare Burgess lost to Fiona Todd and Julia Sparling; Karen Ramsey and Jan Mackinnon halved with Heather Farthing and Libby Bate; Jenny Podd and Liz Messent lost to Ann Spencer and Kim Ward.

Singles: Salmon beat Rose Stollery 4 and 3, Fairs beat Farthing 5 and 3, Burgess beat Spencer 2 and 1, Mackinnon lost to Todd 5 and 4, Jenny Johnson beat Sparling 2 and 1, Messent beat Bate 5 and 4.

- The Suffolk Girls’ Championship, rearranged to be played at Felixstowe Ferry, was postponed for a second time because of the weather. A new date is planned.

Alice Barlow of Hintlesham, the Suffolk ladies’ champion, won the county Division One competition at Thorpeness. Jude Hanner of Felixstowe Ferry won the net prize.

Diss pair Sarah Gotts and Kerry Enever won the Suffolk Coronation Foursomes hosted by Newton Green. Runners-up were Julie Byford and Elizabeth Bezance of Bury St Edmunds. Sheila Jarvis and Alice Wan of Felixstowe Ferry were third. June Kenworthy of Rushmere had a hole in one at the 148-yard 11th.

- Three-handicap Simon Bearman of Newton Green had rounds of 69 and 71 to win the scratch prize in the Greene King Salver meeting at Seckford. Declan Condon, off five, was runner-up with 69 and 74. Four-handicap Marc Duszinski and Paul Flannigan were tied third with 146.

Flanningan (net 126) won the handicap prize from Mark Crisp and Condon (both 133).

The Duncan Masters at Fynn Valley was reduced to 18 holes because of persistent rain. Only 16 players took part.

Calvin Sherwood (Rookery Park) had a round of 72 followed by 74 from Wayne Clarke from the home club. Mark Wilder (Fynn Valley) and Marc Duszynski (Ipswich) both had 76.

- Capel St Mary-based Jason Levermore (Little Channels) confirmed he is the star of the East by landing the regional Order of Merit crown for the fifth time in his career.

Levermore sealed his place by finishing tied-third in the season-concluding Millbrook Masters. It was the latest in a series of consistent displays in the five events that contribute to the overall rankings.

Levermore, started with a victory in the London Open. After that he added a trio of top-three finishes, including a play-off defeat in the East Region Championship.

The only time he came outside the top-three was in the Ingrebourne Links Championship at which he was tied-seventh.

Levermore qualifies for the PGA Play-Offs at Antalya in Turkey from November 21 to 23. He will be joined at the prestigious end-of-season showdown by Rob Coles (Maylands) and Jack Winer (Abridge).

Levermore first won the Order of Merit in 2004 and added further titles in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

- The Autumn meeting of the Association of Suffolk Captains was held at Halesworth where the Peter Grieve Trophy was won by Paul Boon (Waldringfield) with 40 points. Association secretary Paddy Lockwood (Newton Green) was runner-up with 37 points. Colin Aldous (Ufford Park) took third place on count back from Donald Munro and Garry Clark with 35.

Brian Kemp (Felixstowe Ferry) won the Millennium Trophy. His superb round at Brett Vale in the Spring Meeting was followed by a steady round at Halesworth.

Felixstowe Ferry’s Steve Foster, Brian Kemp and James Douglas-Hamilton won the Belle Trophy.
