Suffolk Punch FC has been charged with misconduct after an Ipswich Sunday Football League Reserves Minor Cup semi-final against Taverners Reserves was abandoned on April 6.

Three players who were sent off have also been charged with violent conduct after the Suffolk FA launched an investigation into the tie, called off by the referee after 35 minutes.

According to an initial match report on Taverners’ official website, a “bundle” took place during the game, but this reference was later removed.

A Suffolk FA statement said: “Suffolk Punch FC have been charged with misconduct for failing to ensure players and/or officials and/or spectators conduct themselves in an orderly fashion.

“This includes ensuring supporters do not encroach upon the playing area and causing the match to be abandoned. The club will be attending a hearing.”

The hearing has been set for May 1.

Suffolk Punch FC players Philip Sadler and Rory Orris were both sent off and charged with violent conduct.

Sadler was fined £35 and banned for three matches from April 20.

Orris was fined £35 and banned for four matches from April 20 following his violent conduct charge.

He was also charged with misconduct for assaulting another player and has been banned sine die until he attends a hearing.

Meanwhile Taverners player Eamon Mongan was charged with violent conduct. He has been fined £35 and banned for three matches from April 20.

Mike Hamilton, chairman of the Flowsports Ipswich Sunday League, said: “The league is aware of the situation but are not able to make any comment at this moment.”

The cup final is due to take place on May 11 at Gainsborough Sports Centre in Ipswich. It is understood officials will wait until the hearing reaches a conclusion before deciding which team competes in the final.

No incidents during the fixture, which took place at Whitton Sports Centre in Ipswich, were reported to police. In the other semi-final, Briarbank Rovers knocked out Felixstowe Harpers United Reserves.
