HE may have been booed from the Colchester United fans on Saturday – but young George Porter still loves everything U’s.

Porter, 20, is on loan at Colchester from Burnley and when he chased one more through ball in the final moments of the U’s victory over Walsall on Saturday– like most players in the dying seconds of a game they are winning – he headed straight for the corner flag!

Now, considering the U’s had lost nine games on the spin, you would have thought their fans would be quite happy for a player to waste a bit of time with the team 2-0 ahead and just seconds remaining

Not a bit of it.

Such was the enjoyment of their team’s second-half display – the U’s fans wanted more goals – as Porter headed towards the corner flag!

All good fun and all taken in the right spirit, as Porter admitted.

“It did make me smile,” Porter said.

“I had already set up Freddie (Sears) for a goal and I was put through down the wing again.

“So I headed for the corner and heard the boos.

“But it was all harmless fun and the fans all saw the funny side of it, as well because I could hear some laughs too.”

Porter is a well-spoken young man plying his trade in Essex, while living in south London.

And he has nothing but praise for the club who have taken him on loan until the end of this current season.

“It’s a real family football club,” he said.

“I like it here a lot, there is a good feeling about the place, even though things haven’t been going right for us.

“The fans are great and they have had to put up with a lot over the past months.

“But the result against Walsall is just what we needed, I’m sure of that.”

The U’s have no game this week, but travel to Portsmouth on Saturday in another crucial encounter – Pompey having fallen dramatically through the leagues – and having lost 3-1 at home to bottom-placed Hartlepool at the weekend.
