Drey Wright again drew a blank yesterday, making it no goals in 28 first-team outings for the Colchester United attacker.

But U’s boss John McGreal is convinced that Wright’s luck will turn, in front of goal, and that once the 22-year-old breaks his duck for the season, then other goals will soon follow.

Wright spurned four chances to break the deadlock during yesterday’s 0-0 home draw against Cambridge. He peppered the target, but that first goal remained elusive.

“I had a little chat with Drey (Wright) yesterday. We’ve had a few chats,” revealed McGreal following yesterday’s stalemate.

“He’s getting in those positions, with movement and bright thinking. It’s all excellent, until that end product.

“It will take just one goal, I am absolutely convinced – it will take one goal for him, and the goals will then be coming like red buses.

“We are hoping that will be sooner rather than later. All you can ask him to do is to continue to get into those sort of positions.

“Drey had some good opportunities in the first half to get a goal, but he didn’t manage it, and you are then relying on your back three or back five to stay firm, which they did.

“I thought they were all outstanding. They were seriously tested right the way through.”

Commenting on the overall game, McGreal continued: “We came in at half-time really disappointed to be only level, after our first-half performance.

“We created several good chances, and we knew that they would have to change it, which they did – they gave us a huge test in the second half.

“We then had to change it to try and accommodate it, and then it was a ding-dong, a tough game and a tough point for both teams.

“We put in a few fresh legs, with Kurtis (Guthrie) and (Brandon) Hanlan, and I thought that made a bit of difference as well.

“In the end it was a pleasing point for us. I’m not disappointed with our haul of six points from the four games in this busy period. There’s so much to look forward to for the rest of the season,” added McGreal.
