JON Stead made no excuses for not celebrating his last minute winner against former club Ipswich Town.

The 29-year-old spoke with genuine respect for his previous employers at the end, but – being the professional he is – did not hold back when netting what could be a hugely important strike for the rock-bottom Robins.

“It’s never sweet to score against a former club and I have had fond memories of every club I have ever been at,” said Stead.

“It’s more about the job at hand with my current club and the points today will go a long way to retaining our Championship status.”

The man who scored 20 goals in 67 appearances for Town, added: “Ipswich will be fine. They have made some good loan signings, got a decent squad and Mick McCarthy knows the division well.

“I am sure they will not have any problems and you can see the difference he has made already.

“They (Ipswich team) are a good bunch of lads and I am sure they will be fine.”

Bristol City remain bottom, but their comeback victory means they have closed the gap on 21st-placed Ipswich to just seven points, with a game in hand to come.

Town host sixth-place Middlesbrough on Saturday.

  • Only 20 goals in 67 appearances speaks volumes for a regular goalscorer when he is elsewhere. Ipswich have become a bad club under evans and his 3 clown managers and will find it very hard to get loaned players that are of any quality!!!
