Ipswich Town have confirmed the loan signing of winger Liam Feeney from fellow Championship club Bolton Wanderers.

The 29-year-old, one of the few success stories at the rock-bottom Trotters this season, has swapped a relegation fight for a top-six chase after completing a switch on the final day of the last ever ‘emergency’ loan window.

Feeney produced an impressive display when Ipswich were held 2-2 at The Macron Stadium last Tuesday night, but then Bolton were taken over by a Dean Holdsworth-led consortium and manager Neil Lennon was sacked.

Ex-Bournemouth and Millwall man Feeney, who started his career at non-league club Salisbury, was in the Portman Road stands to watch Town’s 2-0 win over Blackburn on Saturday, trained with his new team-mates for the first time today and will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s visit of Rotherham.

“I am really pleased Mick (McCarthy) has given me the opportunity to come to Ipswich to help their push for the play-offs,” said Feeney, who is out of contract this summer.

“The last few days have obviously been a bit of a roller-coaster ride, what with Neil (Lennon) moving on and Bolton agreeing for me to go out on loan within the space of a few hours.

“I watched Ipswich play against Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday and it was no surprise that Mick’s side were well-drilled and well-organised throughout. They were resolute in defence and attacked in numbers.”

He added: “It’s very easy to get swept up in the whirlwind that surrounds football. For me personally, I know what I’m capable of, and what I can bring to the team. Ipswich has shown great faith in me to bring me here, so naturally I want to return the favour on the pitch.

“It will also be good to catch up with Brett Pitman and Giles Coke, who I played with at Bournemouth and Bolton respectively.”
