DAVID Beckham and Ryan Giggs have both declared their interest in representing Great Britain’s football team at this summer’s Olympic Games in London.

The veteran duo are amongst 191 players from across the Home Nations to have been contacted by the Football Association who have indicated that they would like to be involved.

Giggs and Beckham could both be included as over-age players, while seven players have ruled themselves out of contention, including one English player,

British Olympic Association communications director Darryl Seibel said: “This is an outstanding response and it confirms what we have believed all along, which is there is widespread interest among players in competing for Team GB at the London 2012 Games.

“Clearly, the players recognise just how special this opportunity is.”

The team will be coached by England Under-21 coach Stuart Pearce and players who were contacted by the FA did not need to provide a written response to the FA although a large percentage did.
