Terry Connor believes the goals will flow from the ‘Mac attack’

TERRY Connor was always confident the goals would come for new strike duo David McGoldrick and Aaron Mclean.

After both failing to score in their first four appearances for the club, some Ipswich Town fans were beginning to question whether the January signings would be able to fill the void left by former red-hot loanee DJ Campbell.

The duo went some way to winning over their doubters on Saturday though, bagging a goal apiece in the 4-0 home win over Middlesbrough.

McGoldrick’s strike was a beauty, the front man spinning away from his marker and firing home from 25 yards, while Mclean’s was all about brute strength before the deflected finish.

It was the least that both deserved following their excellent link-up and selfless running throughout.

And assistant manager Connor – in charge of the team in the absence of flu-ridden boss Mick McCarthy – is confident there is plenty more to come from the ‘Mac Attack’.

“Everyone knows I’m a member of the strikers’ union and I know that you need to score goals early on when you join a new club,” said Connor, who scored almost 100 goals during his career as a striker at the likes of Leeds, Brighton and Portsmouth.

“Last week (in the 2-1 loss at Bristol City) David played equally as well and it was lost in the result. Today he scores a goal in a win and everyone will be talking about his performance.

“It’s great he’s got his rewards. I think the team know they’ve got a player they can rely on to hold the ball up, to provide the all-round play and also to get among the goals.

“Aaron’s worked really hard over the last two weeks to pick up his fitness and for 60-odd minutes he ran his heart out today. He really deserved his goal.”
