COLCHESTER United boss Joe Dunne has admitted this his job is on the line, if the U’s do not halt their depressing run.

Dunne was pulling no punches, during his post-match interview following the U’s abject performance against MK Dons last Saturday.

That 5-1 capitulation was their fifth defeat in the last six games, not the ideal way to go into their current two-week break from competitive action.

“It’s a bad run, and managers lose their jobs for that kind of stuff. The buck stops with me,” confessed Dunne.

“We have lost five from six. Prior to that we were doing great, but that counts for nothing now.

“Although we were near the bottom when I took over, we moved up but we are slipping back down again.

“I don’t want to lose too many more games otherwise I won’t be standing here talking to you guys!

“We certainly need to regroup now, because the run we are on is poor, no question about it.”

The U’s have dropped back down to 17th spot. They do not play again until December 8, when they entertain Oldham Athletic.

A victory against Brighton & Hove Albion in a top-of-the-table clash at Portman Road today, would be the perfect tonic for Mick McCarthy’s men, heading into the international break.
