Framlingham Town boss Liam Abraham is confident his young squad are good enough to retain their Thurlow Nunn Premier division status, writes Mike Bacon.

The Castlemen are currently bottom of the table after promotion last season from Thurlow One.

But they picked up their first win of the season at Great Yarmouth on Saturday and tomorrow night entertain Whitton United at Badingham Road (7.45ko) in a run of three home games on the bounce.

“We can stay up, I don’t have any worries about that,” said Abraham.

“We’ve competed in all our games, have been unlucky as well. But we are also realistic and know the situation.

“It’s a young team but we are quite capable.”

Abraham took over as first-team boss in the summer after Mel Aldis quit the post.

Aldis was an important figure at the Suffolk club and had helped guide them to plenty of success. But Abraham, who managed and played in the reserves last season at Fram, was never daunted by the prospect of taking over from Aldis.

“I had no problem taking over,” Abraham said.

“Mel made it easy for me and has helped me alot. We still speak now and his two boys are at the club.

“It’s a very local team and we don’t have a lot of finance. But I’m very proud of the side and I don’t think there are many better youth sections in the area.”

And of the Whitton clash?

“It would be nice to make it back-to-back wins of course,” Abraham, who is assisted at Badingham Road by former Woodbridge coaches Anthony Fryatt and Andy Pirie, admitted.

“We have already played them twice in the FA Cup, but lost the replay. So we both know each other.”

Tomorrow’s game was to be played at King George V and was supposed to be Whitton’s home match. But the Ipswich club have floodlight issues which they are having to be sorted out, so the match has been switched.
