A Suffolk school’s take on the iconic musical West Side Story gets under way tonight – with audiences told to expect an “amazing show”.

Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham said its large cast, band and crew had managed to put the whole production together in just seven weeks.

Director of music Richard Hanley said: “The fiendishly difficult score has proved a challenge for instrumentalists and singers alike, but all is ready for an amazing show. Many of the pupils have enjoyed the extensive dance routines which are a feature of the show.”

West Side Story has earned a reputation as one of the greats of musical theatre, with its reinterpretation of Romeo and Juliet set in 1950s gangland New York.

The school’s production of runs for three nights until Friday.
