Children had fun at a spooky half-term theatre workshop.

Around 80 youngsters, members of Stowmarket and Newmarket’s bRAVO Theatre groups, came together for the Halloween event. They started off with a workshop from Laura Phipps, a make-up artist who has worked on the Dr Who television series and the Harry Potter films.

This involved a Q&A session on her career and gave the children the opportunity to create cuts and bullet holes using make up. Anna Damigella, the principal of bRAVO, said: “It was a huge success, although very messy. The buzz and energy coming from the hall was electric.”

The planning for next year’s half-term workshop is already under way.

Showstopper!: The Improvised Musical, the Olivier-winning show which wowed both London’s West End and the Edinburgh Fringe, is arriving at the New Wolsey Theatre this weekend and is looking for lots of audience participation.

John Cleese is a comedy god. A founder of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, creator of Basil Fawlty and an integral part of such groundbreaking comedy series as I’m Sorry, I’ll Read That Again and The Frost Report, you would expect him to be basking in the sun on some comedy equivalent of Mount Olympus consuming ambrosia off the belly of a woodland nymph.

A new interactive drama production is to be toured around Ipswich schools this autumn in a bid to empower young people to make positive choices around illegal drugs.
