IPSWICH: Amazing actor-musicians, check. A superbly silly storyline, check. Songs that make you want to get up and dance, check. The New Wolsey knows a winning formula when it has one.
What a night.
King Candlestick Camelot’s daughter Princess Susie comes a cropper courtesy of the wonderfully wicked Morgana. Luckily Fairy Fanciful and her well wicked in a good way assistant Frederica are on hand to help, along with Dame Taffeta Trott and Simon Steadfast.
The entire cast were brilliant - especially Peter Manchester as Steadfast, the people’s champion (I thought that was Christopher Maloney?); Will Kenning as Trott and Steve Simmonds as Morgana’s son Mordred. The latter’s voice was amazing during the blisteringly hot encore.
There were plenty of zinging one-liners, some super surreal moments, top topical references - Mordred’s X Factor style sob story had us weeping with laughter - and the steampunk inspired set rocked as hard as the actors.
Don’t Leave Me This Way, Wake Up Little Susie, Wake Me Up Before You Go Go, the hits just kept coming.
And how good was Terry?
Christmas has officially started.
