Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the 1987 film Dirty Dancing

It would take a phenomenal effort to produce a bad Dirty Dancing show. The 1987 coming-of-age drama is ripe for any interpretation: iconic music, a timeless script, a clear story with emotional depth, relatable characters and well-defined goals, and of course, some pretty captivating dancing.

The Deben Players stage Michael Frayn's classic farce within a farce Noises Off at Seckford Theatre, Woodbridge. Photo: Ashley Pickering

I don’t really like farce, with the exception of Peepolkus’ Spyski (or The Importantance of Being Earnest) and this by Michael Frayn. The clever construction, conceit and execution of both - albeit in different ways - wins me over every time.

Robin KIngsland, Olivia Onyehara, Krissi Bohn, Pete Ashmore in Private Lives by Noel Coward at the Colchester Mercury

It is doubtful if Coward would like this version of the rather good play he dashed off in three days while suffering flu in Shanghai in the 1930s. Director Esther Richardson has set out to give it a more modern feel without interfering too much with the text and in this she has largely succeeded.

Red Rose Chain, A Midsummer Night's Dream in 2010

There’ll be no time to sleep, never mind perchance to dream for those taking part in Red Rose Chain’s 25-hour Shakespeareathon.

Sir Trevor Nunn with members of the New Wolsey's Young Company

An opportunity has arisen for young actors to appear in Sir Trevor Nunn’s A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream at the New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich.

Sally Morgan

Rapidly becoming our annual date, my (eldest) teenage daughter and I were looking forward to our return visit to see Sally - and yet again, we were not disappointed.

James and the Giant Peach, a fun family show for youngsters and the young at heart, which is at the New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich

Roald Dahl knew exactly what entertained, not only the young, but also the young at heart and this latest stage adaptation of his one of his most memorable works is just the ticket for family audiences.
