Suffolk Coastal

Join one of the family nature walk at RSPB Minsmere Family nature walks at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm or 2.30pm.

Nature enthusiast Stephen Massey will bring the nature reserve alive with a 45-minute adventure, encouraging families to use all their senses to explore the delights of the reserve’s summer plants and insects.

All walks will start from the Discovery Centre where there will be quizzes and crafts taking place.

The cost is £1.50 per person, plus normal reserve entry fees (£7.50 for non-members, £15 per family).

Or try birdwatching for beginners from 1.30pm.

Learn how to identify the fantastic birds that gather on the reserve at this time of year. The guides will take you through all the steps for bird identification as well as showing you how to use binoculars and which field guides are best for you. No previous experience needed.

The cost for adults is £5 and for children it is £2.50 plus normal reserve entry fees for non-members.

St Edmundsbury

Everyone can join in the family activity day at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds - drop in any time between 10am and 4pm and join in a range of activities, quizzes, trails and stories aimed at children aged five to 12. Children must be accompanied.

The day is organised by the Cathedral’s Discovery Centre team and the theme is Making Choices, with a focus on colour, numbers, patterns and objects.

Give your kids a head start on completing the National Trust’s ‘50 things to do before you’re 11 & ¾ years’ challenges with Out & About Wednesday’s at Ickworth House.

Tomorrow they will be making pies! Mud pies in fact, down in the den building area. Children can also make dens and play with mud as well as trying a few fun crafts.

You can also follow the trail of sticks and make your own trail to follow, where will it lead you? Children can complete challenges four, 12 and 13 from your 50 Things challenge.

Spend the afternoon orienteering with the family at Lackford Lakes.

Follow the map and gain points by completing the fun family friendly challenges to win a prize. Families are asked to take along a digital camera or camera phone

There may not be any real wild animals in Ipswich but you’ll be surprised how many majestic animals and mythical beasts can be seen on a ’Safari’ around the town – from lions to dragons and even a chameleon! Join a walk of discovery from 10.30am.

At Crown Pools there is a family float session from 10.30am to midday, and the inflatable slide will be out from 2pm to 3pm - only suitable for chidlren aged eight and over.

Meanwhile, at Gainsborough Sports Centre, there is a disco party for children aged three and over from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

At Whitton Sports Centre there is rounders and kiwk cricket for five to 12 year olds from 11.30pm to 3.30pm or soft play for preschoolers from 12.30pm to 3.30pm.

There is an action-packed day planned Northgate, starting with dance for seven to 11 year olds from 10am to 11am. There is a free basketball roadshow from 3pm to 4.30pm. Badminton runs from 10am to midday for 11 to 16 years olds and there is archery from 10am to midday for those aged seven and over.

You can try family rollerskating at Maidenhall from 3.30pm to 5pm or take part in the free summer basketball roadshow from 3pm to 4.30pm.
