ChassisCab, the Suffolk-based DAF commercial vehicle dealership, has expanded its territory with the acquisition of the Marshall DAF Truck franchise in Cambridge.

The site in Newmarket Road, Cambridge, previously operated by the Marshall Motor Group, will continue to offer a full range of DAF Truck servicing, repair, parts and new and used sales as well as tachograph and HGV MoT testing.

All 35 staff have transferred to ChassisCab, bringing its total workforce to 145. The company already operates DAF dealerships at Great Blakenham, near Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Isleham, near Mildenhall.

Robert Baxter, dealer principal at ChassisCab, said: “We are extremely proud that ChassisCab is now operating in the city of Cambridge.

“We have been working with truck businesses in Cambridgeshire since 2006 when we acquired a DAF Trucks site in Isleham but this move takes us into the mainstream business community where business is encouragingly buoyant.

“The transfer of the business has been seamless because there is almost complete synergy between the two dealerships,” he added.

“We are looking forward to developing new business in and around Cambridge, helping local, national and international companies to prosper and grow.”

ChassisCab, which was established by David Ruffles in Bury in 1982 as a body repairer and remains a family-owned business, became a parts and service dealership in the late 1980s and was appointed main dealer for what was then Leyland-DAF in Ipswich in 1993.

It moved to new purposes-built premises in Great Blakenham in 1998 and carried out major improvements at its Bury site between 2003 and 2005. A tachograph testing bay was added at the Great Blakenham site in 2006, the same year that the company acquired Universal Garage, a DAF service dealer since 1975, at Isleham.
