East Anglia's biggest independent mobile phone retailer, Digital Phone Company, has chosen Special Olympics Norfolk as its charity of the year.

Over the next 12 months the company, a former shirt sponsor of Norwich City FC, will raise money for the charity through collection pots in its 10 stores and fundraising initiatives including an annual party and a sponsored staff run.

Special Olympics Norfolk is the local branch of an international organisation that supports more than 70 young people and adults who have learning difficulties with sporting opportunities through training and competition.

Richard King, DPC's sales director, said: 'We have been overwhelmed by how the charity has captured the imagination of our own team. In just 24 hours we already have half of our staff committing to a 5km running event in July. We are looking forward to finding other ways to support them.'
