The landlord of a well-respected Suffolk pub says he is “overjoyed” after finishing as runners up in a top national award for real ale pubs.
The Stanford Arms in Lowestoft has been named as one of three runners up in this year’s National Pub of the Year by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) which saw the George & Dragon pub in North Yorkshire achieve the top accolade.
David Burd, landlord at the Stanford Arms, said: “Getting through to the final four was an absolutely fantastic position to be in.
“We are overjoyed to be recognised as the one of the top four pubs in the country for real ale this year.”
Although among the finalists for the first time the pub has won numerous regional awards with their most recent success coming as they were crowned CAMRA’s East Anglia Regional Pub of the Year 2016.
Joining the Stanford Arms as runners up were the Salutation Inn in Gloucestershire and the Swan with Two Necks in Lancashire.
