If your children are running wild around the house and you think them blowing off a little steam will benefit the whole family, take them to The Playground.

Unlike your usual recreational play area, The Playground, located at Suffolk Academy at Church Farm, Barrow, is a little different. Consisting of 25 obstacles across a 1km assault course, this outdoor activity is perfect for children who like running riot, and their ‘wild at heart’ mums and dads too.

“Children can run, climb and crawl around, all whilst covered head to toe in mud!” says Phil Smith, director and playmaker at The Playground. “It’s a great way for them to let off steam and have fun outdoors with their friends, all in a safe and controlled environment.

“The course is designed to appeal to all ages and abilities. There are easier obstacles such as tyre runs, tyre crawls and muddy ditches, through to more trickier obstacles that they can complete with a bit of instruction and advice from the playmakers on duty. All children leave with a sense of achievement... and a dirty laundry bag for Mum!”

Let your child show off their strength by climbing six, eight and 10 foot walls and, if they’re brave enough, watch them take on the incline decline monkey bars and conquer any fear of heights. The course finishes with one of the hardest obstacles to overcome – which is often made to look easy on Ninja Warrior - the ramp.

90 minutes may not seem like a long time, but when constantly on the move its more than enough to tire out even the most energetic of children. Assault the senses, overcome fears and maybe even make it onto the leader board, but most importantly have tonnes of challenging, yet seriously enjoyable fun.

Pay and play sessions are held every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 11.30am. Tickets cost £12 for children aged eight to 17 and £20 for adults. The Playground is not recommended for children under eight.
