Three teenagers have been arrested after a 15-mile police pursuit from Essex to Suffolk in the early hours of this morning.

A Citroen Saxo failed to stop for police in Bures, on the Suffolk/Essex border, and drove off at speed at around 2.20am today.

A stinger was used to stop the car about 15 miles away in Polstead.

In a statement, a Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said: “Three teenagers were arrested after a car failed to stop for police. “The Citroen Saxo vehicle drove off at speed in Bures at about 2.20am today, Wednesday May 24.

“Police followed the car and a stinger was deployed, causing the car to stop in Polstead.

“A 17-year-old boy from the Colchester area was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop when directed, theft of a motor vehicle and going equipped to steal.

“A 17-year-old boy from Colchester and a 19-year-old of no fixed address were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and going equipped to steal.

“All three have been brought to Martlesham PIC for where they will be questioned.”

The Essex Police Force Control Room Twitter account also posted details of the incident this morning. It tweeted a photograph of a vehicle with a bumper sticker stating ‘Drive it like you stole it!’, adding “He read his bumper before taking @SgtColinShead on a 15 mile chase to @SuffolkPolice he felt the sting of @EssexOSG #stinger #bures #nayland.”
