Valentines Mansion, Bancroft’s School and The Temple at Wanstead Park were just a few of the buildings which welcomed visitors this weekend as part of Open House London.
Hundreds of people from far and wide took advantage of the scheme which sees the capital’s outstanding buildings open up to the public free of charge.
Bancroft’s School, in High Road, Woodford Green, moved to Woodford in 1889 from its original home in Mile End Road.
It was founded following the bequest of the wealthy Francis Bancroft, a member of the Drapers’ Company who wished to educate “one hundred poor boys”.
Headteacher Mary Ireland said more than 100 people visited the school.
“It’s a really great thing to do because when the children are here we have to keep everyone out.
“We love it because it gives a chance foir the public to see a beautiful building. We get a mix of people – some come form across the road and others travel from across London.
“Luckily it was a beautiful day and people could go up the tower where you can see Alexandra Palace and Canary Wharf.”
