A woman has appeared in court to face a charge in connection with a fatal crash.
Max Mayo, 30, died after a five-vehicle crash in London Road in Kelvedon on Saturday, September 3.
Hannah Humphrey, of Bobbin Close, Coggleshall, appeared before Colchester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday to face a charge of perverting the cause of justice.
The 36-year-old entered no plea and is next due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on November 29.
Local football clubs paid tribute to Mr Mayo following the news of his death.
In a Tweet Hatfield Peverel FC said the club was "devastated".
It said: "A top player but even better guy who was loved by all that knew him.
"We were honoured and privileged to not only call him our teammate but our good friend.
"Our sincere condolences to all his family and friends, who are in our thoughts at this most difficult of times.
"Max will be deeply missed by us all but never forgotten."
The football cluub held a minute's applause in honour of Mr Mayo at its next home game against Kelvedon Social FC.
A 32-year-old man – Liam O’Brien, of Navarre Gardens, Romford – has already been charged in connection with the incident.
He has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing the serious injury of two people by dangerous driving.
He is next due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on January 9, 2023.
