Sudbury's Knyleigh Parker climbed Snowdon after back break

Few of us will face as many hurdles in our lives as Knyleigh Parker. However, the 25-year-old has remained determined that nothing will prevent her from achieving her goals.

Miss Parker broke her back attempting to do a back flip on a trampoline went wrong. After making a remarkable recovery, she then discovered that she was affected by endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes. It is a long-term condition thought to affect one in every 10 people with a uterus and can affect fertility.

Miss Parker has recently recovered from an operation to remove all endometriosis tissue from various parts of her body.

In amidst all of this, the trainee construction site manager climbed Mount Snowdon with her partner, Alf, in June 2023, raising £2,485.00 to go towards a £7000.00 fund that will enable her to freeze her eggs and potentially have children in the future.

Now, Miss Parker, who studied at West Suffolk College and now works for Lovell Partnerships in Harleston, Norfolk, has been recognised with a prestigious award.

She has now been named as the overall winner of the Apprenticeships Norfolk Awards 2024 in the ‘achievement in exceptional circumstances’ category.

“It might sound strange but going through all of this has made me have more of a positive outlook,” said Miss Parker. “I set myself goals regularly and keep moving forwards.

“A piece of advice that has kept me going through all of this is from the storyteller Brene Brown. She said: ‘One day you’ll tell you story of how you overcame what you went through, and it will become someone else’s survival guide.’”
