House in The Lilacs in Trimley St Martin infested with mould

The resident, who lives at The Lilacs in Trimley St Martin, moved in two years ago, and said he had had black mould in the property three weeks into living in the property.

A survey conducted on the property found that humidity levels were in the high 80's, when it should be between 30 and 50.

The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It will pull three litres of water out of my bedroom in just four or five hours.

"The survey said I needed three of those dehumidifiers, which are the expensive kind, and they need to be running constantly to make the property safe to live in.

"This has had a huge effect on us. My partner, who stays with me a couple of days a week, is now in critical care because of the conditions."

Newtide Homes, the company behind The Lilacs, stated they are "fully committed to providing warm, safe and well-maintained homes" and are aware of the concerns raised regarding this property.

A statement from Sam Greenacre, the managing director, reads: "We spoke with the tenant after he had lived there for 12 months and he did not raise any issues with the property.

"However, we understand that situations can evolve and new concerns may arise over time.

"We've since conducted a thorough survey of the property. Based on the survey's results, we’re in the process of replacing the extractor fans within the home. We have scheduled this for April 4.

"In addition to the fans, we’ve installed a smart thermostat in the property.

"While this device has indicated high moisture levels, we are confident that the new extractor fans will help to reduce the issue.

"We will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure optimal moisture levels within the home."

The resident continued: "It's ridiculous.

"I've never known anything like this. They don't want to take responsibility for my partner being in hospital, despite building a house which wasn't suitable."
