Police believe the circumstances regarding a rape incident that was reported near a mid Suffolk town's railway station are "not as first described".
Officers received a report that a woman, aged in her 20s, was the victim of a serious sexual assault sometime between late afternoon and the evening of Sunday, April 7, along the Gipping Valley River Path, off Station Road East in Stowmarket.
A cordon was put in place following the incident as an investigation was conducted.
Following extensive enquiries, it is believed the circumstances of the incident were "not as first described" to officers, police have said.
A spokesman for the force has confirmed that investigations into the alleged attack remain ongoing.
Officers continue to work with and support the woman while inquiries continue.
There is not believed to be a wider risk to members of the community.
A spokesman for Suffolk police said: "Officers continue to encourage anyone who believes they have been the victim of a sexual assault to report it to police."
