A sign has been put up on a lamp post in an east Suffolk town warning motorists about ducks crossing, amid concerns a rising number are being hit and killed by passing vehicles.

Framlingham resident Sam Tessera has put up the red and white 'hazard' sign near Haynings Service Station in Saxmundham Road.

A number of posters on social media have raised fears about the safety of ducks and mallards, with one posting to the Framlingham community Facebook page on Wednesday that she had found a dead duck in Saxmundham Road.

Another has reported finding male and female mallards dead on Market Hill.

Sam said speeding motorists were to blame and the problem was mainly on Saxmundham Road close to the Haynings garage.

So she put up the sign, which bears the words 'Slow Ducks Crossing'.

She added: "It is related to ducks being hit by vehicles in Framlingham."
