A seven-year-old boy watched a man stabbed to death during a “massive fight” between two men and a woman, a court has heard.
Jay Cotterill, is accused of murdering Richard Hunt after a fight broke out over a dispute around a romantic affair involving the woman, Stephanie Harvey.
Mr Hunt, 37, was stabbed to the heart and lung at the Sutton Heath estate near Woodbridge on October 8 last year.
Earlier this week, Ipswich Crown Court heard Mr Hunt went armed with a baseball bat and had driven Ms Harvey to Cotterill's home in Ipswich Avenue.
The pair planned to deliver Cotterill a ‘good luck’ card for his relationship with another woman, Debbie Williams, but when Mr Hunt turned up he began banging on the house with the baseball bat.
A fight broke out and Cotterill was allegedly hit over the head with the bat by Mr Hunt.
After suffering injury to his nose, Cotterill is said to have gone into his kitchen, grabbed a knife and then stabbed Mr Hunt to death outside his house.
The transcript of an interview with a seven-year-old boy who was at the scene was read out in court on Wednesday.
“Jay just hit everybody and everybody hit Jay,” he said.
When asked about Mr Hunt's death he added: “He just got stabbed in the heart. Jay did that. I saw that happen."
Describing what happened after the stabbing, he said Ms Harvey “just pressed his tummy because she wanted to save him”.
The court was also shown body camera footage of Cotterill’s arrest, where he told officers that he was protecting himself.
The court heard Mr Hunt suffered seven stab wounds, mainly to his chest and neck, including two that were individually fatal.
The trial continues.
