Award-winning author Meg Rosoff visited the Suffolk Blue Cross rescue centre to meet some of their rescue pups – including one dog named after the canine star of her latest children’s book.

Her latest story is called Good Dog McTavish, where readers get to meet a very special rescue dog, who could just be about to pull off a rescue of his very own when his family hits a rough spot.

As a huge animal lover and supporter of national pet charity Blue Cross, Meg has generously donated royalties from her latest tale to help its many pets in need.

She met pup Dudley McTavish, a seven year old Jack Russell cross who could sadly no longer be cared for by his previous owners and is now in the care of Blue Cross Suffolk at Wherstead.

Meg met this little real life McTavish in the hope that raising awareness can find him, and the other Blue Cross pets, new homes where they can enrich a family’s life as much as the literary character in her book has.

Rescue centre supervisor Clare Williamson said: “Pets change our lives in so many ways, just as Meg’s latest book shows.

“We were delighted to welcome Meg to meet the little namesake McTavish in our care and show her how her wonderful support helps our pets in need. Paws crossed our own little wonder rescue dog will have his own family to look after, just like in the wonderful story that is supporting us.”

Meg also had a tour of the rescue centre and met Greyhounds Rosie and Andy, who are currently in a foster home with Suffolk residents, Nigel and Charlotte, who will care for them until they find a permanent home of their own
