The former Braintree home of the founder of a famous textiles company is going under the hammer, with a freehold guide price of up to £300,000.

The Mill Lodge, at 105 High Garrett, is believed to have been owned by Samuel Courtauld who founded Courtauld Company – a firm which pioneered the production of man-made textiles.

The home is detached with three bedrooms and retains many of its period features said to date back to the 1700s.

Auctioneer Paul Bridgeman, president of the Essex division of the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), said: “This charming mill house retains many fine period features.

“Backing onto fields in a convenient location, its connection with Samuel Courtauld also adds to its appeal.

“Owner-occupiers as well as investors are expected to be among those interested when it comes to auction.”

The guide price is £290,000 to £300,000 and will go to auction with Clive Emson Auctioneers in Chelmsford on June 12.
