A “mean” Colchester man who stole from friends and workmates to fund his drug habit has been jailed for ten months.

Adam Fuller, 24, stole two necklaces from his girlfriend and took them to a pawnbrokers and he also stole a television, which he sold for £20, from a friend’s house, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

Richard Potts, prosecuting, said Fuller had also stolen bank cards from two work colleagues while he was doing casual work at a building site in Chelmsford.

Fuller had used the bank cards on more than 14 occasions to buy goods worth more than £200 using contactless payment.

Jailing Fuller, Judge John Devaux described the offences as “mean”.

Fuller, of Stanwell Street, Colchester, admitted five offences of theft, two offences of fraud and resisting a police officer.

Mr Potts said police had gone to a flat in Colchester in August to arrest Fuller and handcuffed him.

As he was being escorted to a police vehicle he had yanked his arms away from the police officer and ran off.

He was pursued by the officer who caught up with him and brought him to the ground.

Frank O’Toole for Fuller said his client had a severe addiction to crack cocaine and was ashamed of the offences he had committed. “He doesn’t excuse his conduct,” said Mr O’Toole.

He said Fuller and his girlfriend had reconciled since the commission of the offences and he wanted to lead a crime-free life with her and their son.
