People of all ages joined together to plant wild flower plugs, plants, seeds, hedging and trees in the new Leiston Community Orchard.

Youngsters from Leiston Brownies, Guides, Cubs, Youth Club and Air Training Corps joined members of Leiston-cum-Sizewell Town Council and other members of the community for the session at the site in King George’s Avenue.

This builds on the project started last year and enhances the orchard, in addition to the new boundary fencing installed by the town council.

Council chairman Lesley Hill welcomed everyone and thanked them for giving their time to be part of the project. She said: “This will be one of many more planting events to enhance this special area, especially for the children who will be able to enjoy visiting the orchard for many years to come.”

Sgt (ATC) Sharon Denson, of 1379 (Leiston) Squadron, said: “This was a great opportunity to be involved in a community project and we were pleased to receive an invitation to come and help.”

Local Guiding and Scouting Groups will be erecting plaques beside the trees they planted at an earlier session and any residents wishing to plant a tree in memory of a loved one, can contact the town clerk for more information.
