Leiston Quakers held another successful Christmas Day for those who would otherwise been alone thanks to donations from within the community.

With a new gas cooker from John Lewis thanks to a £1,500 grant from Waitrose through their ‘Tackling Isolation at Christmas’ initiative, food was prepared for just under 30 people.

The new cooker was installed by gas engineer Martin Keeble.

The guests, who arrived in a Christmas decorated minibus that was provided by the Coastal Accessible Transport Service (CATS), enjoyed a turkey from Leiston butcher Challis, and vegetables from Geoff Platt.

The East of England Co-op also gave some vouchers to fund the meal.

Colin Barber, treasurer for the Quakers, said: “It all came together and worked really well.

“Everyone went home happy and full.”
