Kendo is a form of Japanese martial arts practicing swordsmanship - or kenjutsu - with target areas including the top of the head, the wrists and the chest.
It is distinguishable by its armour - loose fitting robes with protective vests and face and head guards.
It is a popular martial art worldwide. A World Kendo Championship has been held in Japan every three years since its inception in 1970.
In 2012, the Suffolk Kendo Club was formed, and trains at The Academy Health and Fitness Centre in Barrow, near Bury St Edmunds.
